In 2008 Lundqvist signed a six year contract with the New York Rangers making him the highest paid goaltender in the NHL on average over the length of his contract. That same season he also became the first Rangers goaltender to record nine shutouts in a single season since 1956. In 2009 Lundqvist became the first NHL goalie to win thirty plus games in his first four seasons.
Henrik has also played for his country, Sweden, in world championships with the most memorable being the gold medal win in the 2006 Olympics against Finland.
